The International School of Athens hosted the first Teachers’ Workshop on Socratic Seminars in Greece

The International School of Athens hosted the first Teachers’ Workshop on Socratic Seminars in Greece, on the 5th and 6th May 2018. Internationally renowned teacher-trainer John Zola facilitated the workshop with 30 teachers representing schools from all over Greece. (American Community Schools Athens, American College of Greece Pierce, Anatolia College of Thessaloniki, Hellenic American Educational Foundation (HAEF), Pinewood College of Thessaloniki, International School of Athens, Bougas Private Schools of Kalamata, St. Catherine’s British School.) The Socratic Seminar, based on Socrates’ maieutic, is used widely in pioneering schools around the world to foster student-centered discussions with the teacher facilitating by asking appropriate questions. John Zola has taught this workshop throughout Asia, Europe and the United States and this was his first time in Greece, a fact that carried a particular symbolism.
