Visit to Herakleidon Museum

Many important scientific and technical innovations originated in China, including the Big Four: paper, gunpowder, compass and printing. In view of the November 10th celebration of the Science Day for Peace & Development, the Science Department organized a visit on November, 2nd to the exhibition of Chinese Science and Technology, hosted by the Hrakleidon Museum. Students were introduced to models of many inventions, such as the compass, the odometer, the water tower, the earthquake-direction recorder, the hydraulic powered escapement, the gnomon, the tetrantas, the moving sails, porcelain-making et.c. An impressive live demonstration of paper-making from bamboo pulp and a hands-on activity to construct simple compasses and tetrantases rounded-up the visit. ‘
