A Bright New Future for our Primary School

We would like to inform you of certain important changes that will be taking place in our Primary School.

Ms. Chris Grant-Bear, the Primary School Principal since 1996, has announced that she is retiring at the end of this school year. We are grateful for her years of dedicated service to the school, her achievements and leadership in the area of primary education. Ms. Bear will be aiding us with her valuable consulting experience in the continuing development of the Primary School.
Ms. Louise Kalokerinou will assume the position of Principal. She is intimately familiar with the
Primary School, where she has worked since 1983, teaching and coordinating the Kindergarten and teaching 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades. Furthermore, she has been an integral member of the Curriculum Committee which made a complete overhaul of the school-wide curriculum.
Ms. Helga Barry will undertake the position of Early Years Principal for all the Melina’s kindergartens.

But these are not the only changes to be made;it is with great pleasure that we announce the following positive developments:

  • A dramatic remodelling of the Primary School premises is scheduled to commence in June, to be completed by mid-August.
  • To further implement ISA’s commitment to internationalism, some changes will be made to the programme, particularly with regards to languages. During the weekly schedule, Greek as Mother Tongue classes, will be expanded to include history and geography.
  • Foreign languages, including Spanish, French and German will be offered to students starting in 4th grade, in accordance with the pedagogical principle that students absorb a new language more easily at an earlier age.
  • As an extension of this, we are pleased to announce that there will be an after-school programme offering Spanish, French, German and English as a Foreign Language to students at no additional charge, subject to demand. Arabic as Mother Tongue will also be offered. We hope in this way to help create true citizens of the world, and to assist our students in understanding the value of cultural diversity.

Best regards,
C. N. Koenig-Dardoufas
