“COMBATING HATE SPEECH IN EDUCATION” LECTURE

On Friday, February 14, Ms. Anastasia Psallida, Research Associate at the UNESCO Chair for Intercultural Policy in Active Citizenship at the University of Macedonia, delivered an insightful lecture to Grade 9 and 10 students on "Combating Hate Speech in Education." Ms. Psallida began by defining hate speech and its detrimental effects on educational environments, emphasizing how it undermines inclusivity and mutual respect among students. She then explored the root causes of hate speech, including ignorance and stereotypes, and engaged students in an interactive dialogue about the use of emojis in social media communication. Ms. Psallida concluded by offering strategies for students to identify and respond to hate speech, fostering a culture of respect and understanding. This engaging session equipped students with the knowledge and tools necessary to actively contribute to creating a more inclusive and respectful world.
