MYP Student Council Visit to Elpida Guest House: Supporting Children with Cancer through Service
On Friday, October 18th, members of the MYP Student Council visited the Elpida Guest House, a residence dedicated to supporting children battling cancer and their families. This visit marked a significant moment in the school’s ongoing Service as Action program, highlighting the students' commitment to making a positive impact in the local community.
Delivering Donations for the "Back to School" Program
The primary purpose of the visit was to deliver school supplies that had been collected for Elpida’s "Back to School" initiative. These donations, which ranged from notebooks, pens, and backpacks to art supplies and other educational materials, were gathered by MYP students throughout the month of September. The drive was organized as part of the Service as Action program, with the goal of easing the educational challenges faced by children undergoing cancer treatment. This small gesture aims to support their return to school and normalize their educational experience, despite the obstacles they face. The students' contributions were warmly received by Mr. Nanis, Head of Psychosocial Services at Elpida Guest House, who expressed his gratitude for our school's ongoing support. During the visit, students had the chance to engage with the Head of Psychosocial Services to gain deeper insight into how the organization operates, its values, and the impact of its services on the lives of young cancer patients. This educational component of the visit was an essential part of the experience, aligning with the MYP program’s focus on service learning and global citizenship. By understanding the broader context of the challenges faced by children with cancer, the students not only deepened their empathy but also strengthened their commitment to community service.
