Grade 5 UN Sustainable Development Goals

Within the framework of the Primary Years Programme (PYP), transdisciplinary learning encourages students to explore concepts across various subjects. Grade 5 students inquired about the UN Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) within the context of their current unit of study on Biodiversity. In connection with the unit, their class novel emphasizes the global challenges aligned with the SDGs, inspiring readers to reflect on how access to basic resources can transform lives and communities.

In pairs, students engaged in reflective discussions on "What are some problems people face today?" at local, national, and global levels. This activity sparked numerous meaningful conversations, with students jotting down their ideas on post-it notes. A brief overview of the 17 SDGs led to a personal inquiry where each student chose a specific goal to explore further.
