The International School of Athens is proud to announce its recent authorization to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP). The school has been working towards this authorization for the past two and a half years as a candidate school and, after a rigorous process involving: development of a programme of inquiry, submitting units of study written by faculty, re-evaluating the curriculum and professional development and training of faculty by the IBO, we are now an official PYP school! The process also involved the recent visit by a team of authorizers who observed in classrooms, reviewed the school’s curriculum, and interviewed faculty, students, parents, board members, and administrators. We were all very proud of our students, who showed that they could be ‘communicators’ when answering questions, ‘reflective’ when asked about their learning as well as ‘knowledgeable’ when they shared various experiences acquired through their units of inquiry. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the process. It is a momentous time for our whole school community and we cannot be more proud of every stakeholder who has been involved in this journey of re-culturing our school identity and raising our academic direction to the high standards of the IBO.
